Heirstory and Remento, compared
Checked 28 October 2026
Remento asks a storyteller to record spoken answers to weekly prompts, and writes them up. It prints a hardcover book with a QR code beside each story that plays the recording, so the real voice stays with the printed words. It is private by default and promises not to train AI on families’ stories.
Heirstory is less about one book than about the whole family. Gene, an AI genealogist, talks with each relative in turn. What each remembers is kept beside the people it is about, with the records that prove the dates.
The short answer
Choose Remento for a printed book that keeps a parent’s voice.
Choose Heirstory to keep a parent’s stories with the family’s tree, records and photographs, and to have every relative add theirs.

Where Remento is better
- The voice itself, kept and played from the printed book. Heirstory does not keep recordings, and does not print books.
- Easy for an older storyteller, with no app or login.
- A simple yearly price with a book included, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Where Heirstory is better
- A conversation, not a prompt. Gene asks one question at a time, follows the answer, and remembers what was said last time.
- Stories in their place, beside the people they are about, with the records that prove the dates.
- The whole family adds to one record, each in their own words.
- It keeps growing, with no yearly renewal to keep it.
Questions
StoryWorth or Remento or Heirstory?
StoryWorth and Remento both end in a printed book: StoryWorth from written answers, Remento from recorded ones. Heirstory keeps stories with the family’s tree and records, and does not print a book. See Heirstory and StoryWorth.
Does Heirstory keep the voice?
No. A spoken sitting is written down as it is spoken, and kept in the speaker’s own words, but the sound is not kept. If hearing the voice again matters most, Remento is built for that.
What happens to Remento stories if we stop paying?
Without a renewal, you can still view and download the stories, as text, PDF and audio. You cannot record new ones.
Can more than one person tell their story?
Yes. Every relative has their own conversations with Gene, and what each remembers joins the same family record.
